VIDEO: 4 Skins - Southall Riot (1981)

London, England - Skinheads

In 1981 the 4 Skins, The Business and the Last Resort did a secret gig in Southall, most know for being an "Asian" neighborhood. A gang of the Asian community did not wanted the show to happen so they started graffiting in the walls of the bar "Whites Out!". It didn't take long for the violence to start, right after a brick came out from outside the bar and broke the window. Skins came out of the bar to see what was happening when they were attack by the Asian gang. In matter of seconds the bar turned into a riot and the police came to minimize the violence, which didn't help much. The next day Skinheads were blamed for the riot and it was the beginning of the death of Oi!

PHOTOS: The Last Resort SHOP (1980s)

London, England - Skinhead

Based in Goulston Street near Petticoat Lane, The Last Resort was the brainchild of Micky French and Margaret. It became a mecca for skinheads all over the UK and beyond and more so for the London skinheads who frequented the place - especially on a sunday afternoon.

They sold to both skinheads, punks and rockabillies, although the punk and rockabilly gear was pretty much an afterthought. The catalogue can be viewed here (funny now looking at all the prices).

Skinheads visited the shop from all over the country and in smaller numbers from all over the world. It's blue brickwork exterior and cyan neon sign, along with the Marilyn Monroe model became etched into the psyche of any self-respecting skinhead during the late 70s/early 80s.

The shop gave it's name to the Last Resort band which they actively promoted and managed, fronted by Roi Pearce. The black and white crucified skin and the one on the Last Resort's "A Way of Life - Skinhead Anthems" have become known by skinheads all over the world and the crucified skin in particular is probably one of the most common tattooes to find on a skinhead.

Not being a Londoner, I only visited the Last Resort 3 or 4 times but pictures of it still bring back memories. The skinheads who frequented the shop regularly on sunday afternoons must have many more memories of the shop

VIDEO: Virus 27 - Grito Oi! (1988)

Sao Paulo, Brazil - Oi!

Ultra rare song by Virus 27. Original released on the "Ronda Alternativa" compilation limited edition LP in 1988.

Virus 27 was formed in 1982. They started as a punk band and later when the skinhead scene split from the punk movement in the mid 80s, the band leaned to the Oi! scene.
